Shingrix Vaccine Now Available

Effective immediately, The Sloane Street Surgery now offers Shingrix® vaccinations. Our GPs recommend vaccination with Shingrix against Herpes zoster virus to all patients over the age of 65, even if you have received a previous Shingles vaccination. This is because the new vaccine, which has recently become available in the UK, is much more effective at preventing a Shingles infection. This is currently not available on the NHS.

To discuss how having the Shingrix® vaccine could benefit your long-term immunity or to book an appointment to have yourself vaccinated, contact your GP’s Secretary on our contact page.

Dr Russell Ward joins Sloane Street Surgery

We are very pleased to have Dr Russell Ward who has joined our practice from August 2018. Dr Ward will be consulting on Monday mornings, Thursday afternoons, and Friday afternoons.

Originally from Surrey, Dr Russell Ward qualified at Nottingham University Medical School in 2008, having previously completed a separate degree in Biological Sciences at King’s College London. Part of his medical training was spent at Yale University Medical School, Connecticut. Before becoming a GP, he had previously been in surgical training. He then completed GP training, gaining the membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners. Prior to joining The Sloane Street Surgery, he worked for several leading London private practices as well as gaining much valuable experience in NHS general practice. In addition, he has worked for Night Doctor. He has a particular interest in Men’s Health, but enjoys all aspects of General Practice having trained in Urology, Ear Nose and Throat, Emergency Medicine, Paediatrics, Psychiatry and General medicine. Russell enjoys spending time in the countryside when not busy in London, and is a keen tennis player.

CQC Inspection

The Sloane Street Surgery is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) as an independent private clinic. The commission is responsible for inspecting all independent healthcare establishments routinely to ensure the safety and well-being of patients. The last CQC inspection was in February 2018, with the surgery having passed this inspection. A copy of the inspection report is available here.

Seasonal Flu Vaccine

Sloane Street Surgery recommends immunisation against seasonal Influenza for all patients over six months old, as this can affect even normally healthy people. A Flu vaccine reduces your risk of becoming ill with seasonal Influenza.

Whilst the Flu vaccine is good protection against seasonal Influenza, it does not guarantee that you will not become ill with the flu. The Flu vaccine can only match the current strain of the virus affecting the community, and therefore if the circulating Flu in your area differs then it can decrease the effectiveness. It is still however a good idea to have this as a measure to improve your immunity.

This is available as an injection or a nasal vaccine (recommended for children). Please book an appointment on 0207 245 9333 or by emailing the Secretary of your registered Doctor (contact details on our contact page).
