Dr Rob Fletcher

“General practice is, to me, the epitome of medicine. It gives me the opportunity to care for all aspects of a patient’s health in partnership with them, while building the long-term relationships that allow me to truly get to know my patients.”

I studied medicine at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals as a graduate, having previously been awarded a first-class degree in Sports Science at Loughborough University. I qualified as a doctor in 2001 and initially trained as a surgeon, with the intention of specialising in orthopaedics. I spent time as a research registrar in spinal surgery, looking at alternatives to spinal fusion, before working extensively in A&E and paediatrics and ultimately choosing general practice for its breadth and variety.

I am a Member of both the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Royal College of General Practitioners. For 12 years, I was Lead GP for the Urgent Treatment Centre at Croydon University Hospital, alongside one of the busiest A&E departments in the country. This has given me extensive experience in managing trauma, injuries and acute medical emergencies. I also hold a Diploma in Urgent Medical Care from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, where I am a faculty member and examiner.

I love the broad scope of general practice and the long-term relationships I am able to build with my patients. I am a strong believer in patient choice, honest conversations, and taking the time to fully explain and explore the options available. With my surgical and sports science background, I have a particular interest in musculoskeletal medicine and am a GP with an Extended Role (GPwER) in this field. I have also always found paediatrics particularly rewarding and have broad experience in both general paediatrics and neonatology.

Alongside my work at Sloane Street Surgery, I remain a practising NHS GP in the Surrey Hills, having previously worked extensively in Croydon, where I was Medical Director of the local GP federation.

Outside of medicine, I have adult daughters and teenage sons and enjoy spending time with my family. You will often find me cycling — usually struggling up the Surrey Hills — or walking with my wife and our two dachshunds, Martha and Darcy.
